Hello! I'm Emily and I'm going to show you how to make a beautiful watercolour painted
0:04
cake using lemon curd. Start with a chilled, frosted cake. I piped a beaded border around mine but in hindsight
0:11
I should have done that at the end. Tint your lemon curd into as many colours as you want using gel food colours. I made
0:17
orange, pink and purple and left the rest of the lemon curd yellow

by clicking the link. Put each colour of lemon curd in a Ziploc bag. Now we're going to paint! Using sharp
0:32
scissors, snip off a corner of each Ziploc bag, just the tip
0:36
I'm starting with the top of the cake, squeezing the lemon curd on and then swirling it with
0:40
my spatula. I'm trying not to blend the colours too much at this point because I want to see how the
0:45
sides turn out first. For the sides, I'm lifting up my cake and squeezing more lemon curd out of the Ziploc bags
0:54
You could also put the lemon curd in bowls and use a spatula to wipe it onto the sides
0:59
Use a spatula to guide your lemon curd, choosing where you want each colour to go
1:05
If there are any empty spaces where you want some colour, you can add more lemon curd as you go along. Then use a scraper to blend it and flatten it against the frosting
1:15
Wipe the lemon curd off the scraper after each time you use it so you don't mix the
1:18
colours together more than you want to. When you're happy with the sides, you can finish off the top to match
1:25
I'm scraping off most of the lemon curd, leaving about the same coverage as on the
1:29
sides of the cake. The lemon curd stays glossy and leaves the cake with a beautiful sheen
1:35
I recommend keeping the cake in the fridge until 2 or 3 hours before you serve it
